Mission and Values
Our Standards
Our Animals
- Daytime (and nighttime for anyone who can fly, like Muscovy, or fend for themselves, like the cats)
- Not just access, but actual life in the pasture to forage and eat whatever critters and bugs are suitable for their species
- Access to clean, weather-appropriate shelter for their species, including shade
- Nighttime (for ducks who can’t easily escape predators)
- Safe, clean space, cleaned daily, suitable for the species at all stages of their lives.
- Adequate space for the species (no overcrowding or intense confinement)
- All times
- Access to clean water and clean food bowls
- Food-providing animals: Organic, Non-GMO, soy-free feed (New Country Organics) equivalent to their undomesticated equivalent (e.g., ducks eat corn in the wild, so their feed includes corn).
- Predator and pest-control animals (the cats): outdoor diet supplemented with the best raw food we can afford
Our Plants/Produce
- Organic pest control (e.g., diatomaceous earth)
- Organic fertilizer (e.g., Espoma Garden-Tone)
- Local or organic compost
Our Foods and Baked Goods
- No soy (unless requested, like a soy-based cream cheese)
- No corn (unless it’s, like, cornbread!)
- Nothing artificial
- No preservatives
- No nitrates or nitrites
- No high-fructose corn syrup
- No refined/white sugar
- No fractionated oils/fats (we use butter, coconut oil, or olive oil)
- No hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils
- No known irradiated foods
- Unbleached flours
- Organic or Non-GMO ingredients (if possible/available)
Our Food Equipment
- No non-stick or aluminum surfaces touch the food (we use stainless, cast iron, or stoneware; we use paper liners if the item only comes in non-stick or aluminum, e.g., large muffin tins)
- No aluminum foil (we use parchment, if needed)
- Unbleached paper products, if needed (e.g., baking cups)
